    Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo, published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch on July 26, 2019. It is the sixteenth entry in the Fire Emblem series and the first for home consoles since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (2007).

    Setting and Gameplay

    The game is set on the continent of Fódlan, divided into three nations: the Adrestian Empire, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Leicester Alliance. These nations are connected through Garreg Mach Monastery, which serves as a religious hub and an officer's academy. Players assume the role of Byleth, a former mercenary turned professor, who must choose one of three houses—Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer—to lead and train students in both academics and battle.

    The gameplay combines traditional turn-based tactical combat with social simulation elements. Players manage their time between battles by teaching classes, building relationships with students, and participating in monastery activities like fishing or gardening. The game features a calendar system that dictates available activities and events.

    Story Structure

    The narrative is divided into two parts:

    1. Academy Phase: Players interact with students and prepare them for battle.
    2. War Phase: After a five-year time skip, the story focuses on larger conflicts tied to the chosen house.

    Each house offers a unique storyline and perspective on Fódlan's political struggles. The player's choices significantly impact the narrative's direction, including alliances and outcomes.

    Reception

    Fire Emblem: Three Houses received widespread acclaim for its deep characters, engaging narrative, innovative mechanics, and replay value. However, some critics noted minor issues with difficulty balance and technical aspects. The game won several awards, including Best Strategy Game at The Game Awards 2019. By December 2022, it had sold over 4.12 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling title in the franchise.

    Spin-Off

    A spin-off game titled Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes was released on June 24, 2022. It offers an alternate take on the story using hack-and-slash gameplay mechanics.
