Setting and Story

The game takes place in Aionios, a world formed from merged locations of Bionis and Alrest, where two nations, Keves and Agnus, are engaged in perpetual war. Soldiers in this world have artificially limited lifespans of ten years, known as "Terms," and fight to fuel their Colony's Flame Clock, which is powered by the life force of fallen soldiers. The story follows six main characters—Noah, Eunie, and Lanz from Keves, and Mio, Sena, and Taion from Agnus—who discover a way to fuse into powerful forms called Ouroboros and decide to cooperate to uncover the truth behind the war.

Gameplay

Combat System: The game features a real-time battle system with three main roles: Defenders (tanks), Attackers (deal damage), and Healers (support). Players can control any of the six main characters during combat and recruit additional Heroes to join the party, each with unique abilities.
Interlink System: Specific pairs of characters can fuse into Ouroboros forms, which are invincible and have stronger abilities. This system is limited by a Heat Gauge that must be managed during battles.
Open World: The game offers a vast open world with a day-and-night cycle affecting in-game events. Players can explore diverse biomes and engage in side quests that contribute to the narrative.

Reception

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 received positive reviews for its engaging story, characters, music, and gameplay, though it faced criticism for technical issues at launch. By March 2023, it had sold over 1.86 million copies. A DLC expansion titled Future Redeemed was released in April 2023, adding new content to the game.
